NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY AND GENETIC ENGINEERING (NIBGE), FAISALABAD M.Phil. (Biotechnology) & Ph.D. (Biotechnology)

                                                Introduction

NIBGE is a Centre of Excellence for human resource development in the field of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering. It is affiliated with Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences (PIEAS) Islamabad for awarding M.Phil. and  Ph.D. degrees.  NIBGE is also an affiliate centre of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) Trieste, Italy. As its tradition, NIBGE offers its platform to students who have very high passion for science and have self-confidence in enduring the challenges of highly demanding science of Biotechnology.

Application Procedure

•Submit duly filled admission form (can be downloaded   from  www.nibge.org) accompanied with attested copies of the certificates of qualification, domicile, character certificate, detailed marks certificate, three passport size photographs and no objection certificate from the employer in case of in-service candidates. Incomplete application form may cause delay in admission or termination of candidature.
•   M.Philcandidates have to appear for  written test
    and  interview .
•   Ph.D. candidates have to appear for interview only.
•  The candidates are advised to bring their original NIC,
   academic certificates, domicile, thesis/research report and
   a copy of publication(s) at the time of interview.
•Selected candidates will be required to submit university original character  and migration certificates.
•A non-refundable bank draft/pay order of Rs.3000/- in the name of  Head LAO, NIBGE should accompany the application form.




Eligibility Criteria

•For M.Phil minimum qualification of 4 years BS/M.Sc  (16 years of education) with at least 2.5 CGPA (out of 4) or equivalent.
•For Ph.D. Minimum qualification of MS/ M.Sc.(Hons)/ M.Phil. degree (18-years of education) with at least CGPA 3.0 (out of 4) or equivalent.•Candidates with degree in the fields of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Botany, MBBS, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Zoology, Genetics, Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Agriculture (All majors/specializations), Animal Sciences (All majors/specializations), Food Technology (Nutrition, Food Sciences), Microbiology, Physiology, Pharmacy, Microbiology  & Molecular Genetics.•Preferably first class academic career, however, one second division is allowed  except in the final degree.•HEC scholarship holders will be given preference.•In-service candidates may apply through proper channel.•Subject GRE/GAT-Subject test is mandatory for Ph.D. admission, as per HEC requirements.•Ph.D. candidates can apply at any time after qualifying subject GRE/GAT-Subject test.•Result awaited students can also apply with ‘Hope Certificate’  from their department/ University.

⇛MS-CS Eligibility Criteria

The minimum required marks/grades for admission in MS ( Computer Science) will be as follows; 

  1. 2.5/4.00 CGPA or 60% in an Annual System.
  2. All candidates are required to pass the GCU Graduate Assessment Test ( general) for MS/MPHil Admission to be conducted through NTS.
  3. The schedule of registration and test shall be announced at appropriate time.
  4. a. BS (CS) 4-Year Degree Programme. OR b. Computer Science Conversion Course i.e. 2-Year Degree Programme refered to as MCS or MSc (CS). OR c. 16-year graduates having any of the following degree as eligible with the condition that they will cover deficiency courses.

  • In case of two years masters degree (after 14 years of education) 70 Credit Hours.

MS Program

  •  MS (CS) Degree program is of 36 credit hours, and spread over 2 years with 2 Semesters in each year. The MS (CS) students are required to complete 2 core courses (6 credit hours) and 6 elective courses (18 credit hours), followed by a thesis (12 Credit Hours) to complete the MS degree. 
  •  MSCS in GCU Lahore is a full week, afternoon program. Normally classes are arranged from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. 
  •  MSCS is 4-semester program. Admissions are announed in July and classes start from November every year.
  •  Admission Schedule: Admissions in MS/Mphil are announced in month of July. 
  •  The admission process will be announced by GC University Lahore.

Minimum 50% Marks with following combination in Intermediate. 
  • F. Sc Pre Engineering/Pre Medical with Additional Mathematics.
  • ICS/General Science with following combinations

Cannot elligible

  • DAE or other Diploma holders are not eligible for admission in BS(CS) program in GC University Lahore.
  •  I.Com/D.Com certified candidates are not eligible.
  •  Result Awaiting students who have appeared in 2017 can apply for Entry test. 
  •  Please note that Online registration, Entry Test Slip and Entry Test result declaration does not mean that a candidates eligibility has been checked and he/she qualifies for admission.
  •  Eligibility will be determined by checking original documents, before admission. Admission shall be cancelled if a candidate submits wrong information, or shows fake documents. 


BS-CS Merit Formula

Minimum 50% marks will be required in Intermediate Result. 

  •  Admission will be based upon following Merit Formula, 
  •  Intermediate marks: 60% weightage 
  •  Entry test : 40% weightage 
  • Previous Year Merit was approximately 69.72% in last merit list.
  • Example: Candidate Intermediate Marks=670, and Entry Test Marks=40 
  • Simplified Aggregate Formula: (Intermediate Marks x 3/55) + (Entry Test Marks x 0.8) 
  • Simplified Formula: Candidate Aggregate= (670 x 3/55) + (40 x 0.8) = 68.545454545455
